Mainframe Open Education: Meet Devonte Hawkins and Himanshu Kiran

By June 25, 2024No Comments

Open Mainframe Project’s Mainframe Open Education (MOE) enables students to learn from experts with years of experience through collaborative knowledge sharing on our GitBook platform. It’s a community that focuses on ‘open sourcing’ mainframe learning roadmaps and community knowledge transfer.

Led by core MOE members from Broadcom and IBM, a Student User Group was created earlier this year to discuss the different journeys into the mainframe ecosystem, feedback for project materials like the GitBook and more. The team meets on the 1st Wednesday of each month, from 9:00 – 10:00 am PDT, for the Mainframe Open Education Student User Group (MOE SUG) webinar.

In the June webinar, we met Devonte Hawkins, IBM Z Technical Specialist. Devonte shared his journey from IBM Accelerate to becoming a Mainframe Ambassador and his role in the Open Mainframe Project. He also provided a quick overview of  his community contributions and learning resources he’s leveraged in his career.

Additionally, we met Himanshu Kiran, a student from Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology in India. Himanshu provided an overview of what he was studying, what he’s interested in and feedback after reviewing the MOE GitBook.  If you missed this month’s webinar, you can watch the video below.
