Open Mainframe Project’s Mainframe Open Education (MOE) enables students to learn from experts with years of experience through collaborative knowledge sharing on our GitBook platform. It’s a community that focuses on ‘open sourcing’ mainframe learning roadmaps and community knowledge transfer.
Led by core MOE members from Broadcom and IBM, the Student User Group was created in 2024 to discuss the different journeys into the mainframe ecosystem, feedback for project materials like the GitBook and more. The team meets on the 1st Wednesday of each month, from 9:00 – 10:00 am PDT, for the Mainframe Open Education Student User Group (MOE SUG).
In the May meeting, MOE core team member Sean Rooney, Client Services Technical Consultant at Broadcom, chatted with speaker Idris Zubair, a Computer Science student at the University of Wolverhampton. Idris is an IBM Z Student Ambassador, Secretary, and Vice President of the Mainframe Student Society at Wolverhampton, and his expertise spans beyond the mainframe into fintech, microservices, APIs, and cloud-based architectures. Watch the video to learn more about his accidental discovery of mainframes in a university hallway, his passion for community building, and the innovative interactive article he built to explain the mainframe Workload Manager.
Everyone is welcome to join the SUG meetings. Click here to attend the next meeting on Wednesday, June 3 at 9 am PDT.
