The Open Mainframe Project Goes Across the Pond

By | May 20, 2024May 22nd, 2024

Planning a trip across the pond to England?  What are the things on your list to do while you’re there?  Go to Abbey Road, visit The Cavern Club, Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, or go on a Jack The Ripper tour? Eat fish & chips, enjoy tea and crumpets or a posh coffee, maybe a full English breakfast, or discover one of the many local tasty brews?  Well, if you are a mainframer and interested open source and any of the projects that are part of The Open Mainframe Project, then you MUST add attending the annual in-person GSE UK event to that list.  This year’s event is being held November 4-7, 2024 at Whittlebury Hall, Towcester, UK.

This year, for the first-time ever, The Open Mainframe Project will have a full stream at GSE UK. This is a new stream at the conference focusing on open source on the mainframe. This will include Linux on Z, those directly associated under the Open Mainframe Project and those that complement it. As modern tooling becomes more and more desirable to the mainframe workforce, our objectives for this stream include: encouraging developers of all ages and backgrounds and organizations to embrace the use of open source tools on the mainframe; demonstrating modern mainframe tooling; and establishing a thriving community of users and contributors. This track aims to cater to experience levels from the novice to the expert.

The Call for Papers is OPEN until June 28, 2024!  Find all of the details here:  https://lnkd.in/e-2CKMWs  If you have a passion for open source and The Open Mainframe Project, get your submissions in.  Don’t miss out.  We want to see you there.

If you were fortunate enough to attend GSE UK 2023, then you know that it was the place to be. The highest attendance in their history, a strong young professional and student showing, and yes, there was some open source content. Well, this year we excited to formalize that into its own stream and increase the amount of that content and hopefully do our part to help GSE UK continue to grow its audience.

Whether it’s Zowe, Galasa, Feilong, COBOL Programming Course, or Mainframe Open Education, we want to hear from you. Sessions are 45 minutes in length, so even if you are new to presenting, you can do this. Take it from me, the people you will meet and the connections you will make, will definitely enrich your career going forward.
