SUMMARY:Open Mainframe Project's Zowe Virtual Hackathon
DESCRIPTION:Open Mainframe Project is planning its first-ever Virtual Hackathon for the developer community that aims to educate students\, engineers and makers around the world about the Zowe framework and how it can be used to create enterprise applications. \nThe inaugural Virtual Hackathon will take place on Sunday\, February 23 and extended to Thursday\, April 30 and is open to anyone who would like to participate and create a team. Teams (between 2-8 members) can register together and submit their current project or something new. The only condition is for the project to be Zowe related. \nTo register your team\, please click here: http://www.cvent.com/d/ynql8z/4W \nOnce all the projects are submitted by April 5\, Open Mainframe Project will host a webinar where each team will have a short slot to present their project. Leading solutions and projects will be featured in a virtual meetup and blog. They’ll also be invited to attend Open Mainframe Summit on September 17-17 in New York City at no cost to the participant. All participants will receive a unique digital badge indicating that they have contributed to this hackathon. \nLearn more about Open Mainframe Summit here: https://events.linuxfoundation.org/open-mainframe-summit/. \nExamples of potential Zowe projects: \n\n\n\n\n●  An enhancement or addition to the Zowe ecosystem\, perhaps a feature you might have been missing in it. \n●  A project to build something of your own on top of Zowe\, or leveraging Zowe. \n●  If you have an product of your own\, it could be an enhancement to make it compatible with Zowe\, or Zowe extension for your product. \nA good example of a project that started in a hackathon is the Zowe Mobile App\, which initially started as a hackathon project within Open Mainframe Project member Broadcom. Broadcom had an internal hackathon\, this app was presented and it was recently accepted as a part of the Zowe project. Please read more about the app and how it was created in this article. \n Criteria for project presentations: \n●  Potential business value \n●  Blog/Vlog quality \n●  Innovation/creativity/fun \n●  Learning \n●  Finished product \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIf you need help\, please reach out to using the #virtualhackathon channel on the Open Mainframe Project Slack. OMP Zowe community members will answer all questions and offer support to the registered participants during the hackathon.

SUMMARY:IBM Z Council – Cincinnati\, OH
DESCRIPTION:Open Mainframe Project members Vicom Infinity and Broadcom are hosting IBM Z Council in Cincinnati\, OH. \nThis session will update attendees on IBM’s latest IBM Z hardware developments and new Security\, Data and Management solutions. \nWe’ll kick off the session with a presentation by Rich Hornor from IBM Z Offering Management as he introduces us to the IBM z15 – the latest generation of IBM Z. With new industry-first capabilities\, IBM z15 supports your digital transformation providing superior security and resiliency for mission-critical cloud workloads. \nNext\, Rich will do a deeper dive into one of the z15’s most exciting features – Data Privacy Passports. The movement of data between partners and third parties is often the root cause of data breaches. This capability provides transparent\, end-to-end\, data-level protection and privacy. Now\, you can encrypt your data\, grant and revoke access to it\, and maintain control of it – even as it moves off the system of record. \nThen\, Jerome Gilbert will discuss Db2 DevOps. Many organizations are moving to create a strategy around continuous integration and continuous delivery\, even for data. Db2 for z/OS has developed solutions to address developers’ desires for speed and the freedom to try things out. Db2 DevOps makes the platform much more attractive for developers without giving up control of the Db2 development environment. \nFinally\, Steve Bohn will introduce Zowe.  Zowe is a project under the Linux Foundation Collaborative Project\, the Open Mainframe Project\, intended to bridge the divide between modern enterprise applications and the mainframe.  Learn what this means for your organization\, and for all Z companies around the world. \nSign up here.

SUMMARY:Open FinTech Forum
DESCRIPTION:Open Mainframe Project will be on-site at Open FinTech Forum on December 9 in New York\, New York. Focusing on the intersection of financial services and open source\, Open FinTech Forum will provide CIOs and senior technologists guidance on building internal open source programs as well as an in-depth look at cutting-edge open source technologies\, including AI\, Blockchain/Distributed Ledger\, Kubernetes/Containers\, that can be leveraged to drive efficiencies and flexibility. \nDiana Henderson\, an Offering Manager for OMP member IBM\, will give a presentation titled\, “The Future of Banking: Securing Digital Asset Custody Solutions\,” at 2:10-2:40 pm. \nAsset tokenization is emerging as a method for managing assets by converting rights to an asset into a digital token. If the asset can be digitized\, it can be easily traded\, enhancing liquidity and value. But organizations seeking to secure these assets on exchanges are challenged by threats of crypto hacking and insiders with access to those assets. Organizations require secure and regulatory compliant custodial services to fully participate in these digital asset markets. Come hear about this burgeoning industry from a client/ISV perspective\, along with the solution they’ve implemented on the world’s most secure Linux platform. SUMMARY:Helping Mainframe Clients with their Journey to the Cloud
DESCRIPTION:Open Mainframe Project members Broadcom and Vicom Infinity invite you to an event to learn more about the new directions in DevOps and the tools that will help you get there\, including Zowe. On Wednesday\, October 23 at the Marist NYC Executive Center\, located at 420 Fifth Ave. (corner of 37th St. and 5th Ave.)\, from 8-9 am. \nAttendees will hear about how OMP members like Broadcom and Vicom are bringing to market new innovative technology and approaches to service these emerging demands of enterprise level hybrid and Multi-Cloud environments. \nYou will hear examples of Zowe adoption in the industry: \n\nCloud-like experience for new generation of Mainframe developers achieved through Command Line Interface and integration oi z/OS commands with modern scripting languages like JavaScript\, test and automation frameworks like Jest\, or Mocha.JS and mainframe subsystems and applications like CA Endevor SCM.\nExtension of CI/CD Pipeline to z/OS\n\nZowe enables integration of various tools into the CI/CD pipeline without requiring dedicated tool integrations and plugins. It allows DevOps teams to use the best tool for the job. \n\nProvisioning and ITOps automation\n\nAutomation is not an exclusive just to development. System provisioning\, maintenance and many other administrative tasks can be automated\, or exposed as self-service. We’ll take a look at examples of automation of ITOps tasks using Zowe. \n\nAutomation of Manual Processes\n\nIn this section of the presentation Goran will introduce Zowe API Mediation Layer (microgateway) and we’ll take a look at how IBM Global Services utilizes Zowe API  Mediation Layer to build automation for z/OS workflows into the ServiceNow Portal. \nPlease RSVP by October 15th to  info@vicominfinity.com
